Fear of Intimacy
02:25
|

DREW:
the last time I got laid
I went crazy for a week
it's hard to know how to be with someone
when you don't even know how to be yourself
a little sweetness can mean a lot
but what do you do when it means too much?
I don't know if I can stand to fuck again
but it means so much when you hold my hand
in the dead of night
maybe that's enough
WILL:
lack of connection
closed off to the world
barriers up
to share a moment with no role
briefly here
all flesh, no goal
[I wrote this song about a failed relationship, but by the time we had finished the song and started playing it out, I had already begun dating the woman I am marrying next month. Life throws you curveballs sometimes. Expressing the emotions of the moment is very important but it's also important to remember not to get too caught up in them. Every day is a new chance to change it all. --Drew]

A Wrinkle in Time
02:07
|
|||
WILL:
tied to a story
i yawn as it ends
hands move slow
time plays tricks
DREW:
I can't believe just how much
time I lost being afraid
the murder I thought I saw in their eyes
couldn't touch me
but maybe the love I could
have found for myself
would have made
the last 20 years more bearable
there's something to be said
for living long enough
to find the truth that was
within you all along
[This song is about dreading your own existence. Life is precious, but we are all struggling through it. Feeling disenchanted is normal. - Will]

Trauma Literature
01:38
|

DREW:
please do not attempt to transgress
by acting out the role of the oppressor
menacing pose communicates cool
but where does it all end?
songs of status quo oppression
we don't need to hear again
nurturing victim's complexes
to spur obsessions
token fetishes
for cathartic release of trauma
WILL:
egos betray us
from a dark place of creativity comes inexcusable greed
glorified and idolized
we're distracted
romantic male artist, what a tired ideal
looped forever.. so many consumed
BENSON:
your ignorant tongue knows no bounds
how can you be so blind of your actions
[Written in response to the collective yawn from the scene at large when word leaked out of Michael Gira's sexual assault on Larkin Grimm. When artists who take transgressive postures in which they mirror the worst aspects of dominant culture, supposedly as ironic comment, are exposed as perpetuating those very aspects, that should recast their art and their lives in a new, more negative light. It's a shame that so rarely happens. --Drew]
